--- this is perhaps Aesop's version of Epimenides,

"I am a liar"

For Helzerman, Perry and Barwise and Echmendy _simplify_ things. They fail to realise that there's autophora involved (not metaphora). And that Grice operates at various levels, including eschatological ones.

So the liar is indulging in some serious breakage of ... maxims and things.
