Was possibly Grice hisself!
As time went by, he became more and more conservative in his views! He ends up comparing "Oxonian dialectic" with the "Athenian dialectic" inaugurated by Socrates.
Homer is OK -- but for a MA Lit Hum, as Grice was, Socrates seems like a good starting point!
