meanᴺ and meanᴺᴺ

Kramer has provided some v. good input in "Grice's Naturalism Without Tears", comments, this blog.

Basically, he _understands_ Grice! (as I don't on _that_ point on how serious must we be about an awfully obvious scare-quote use of 'mean' as in

those spots 'mean' measles

-- thus scared-quoted by Stevenson, as cited by Chapman, and that Grice cites in WoW, "Meaning".

Etc.

  1. Part of the problem was in Grice's solution: replacing Peirce's krypto-technicisms for flat Anglo-Saxonisms!
