"Now keep your head, Meiggs"

----

Davidson's idea that "Now keep your head, Meiggs" (remark by Hardie overheard by Grice, when obviosuly on the phone with 'a woman') are self-addressed imperatives is too naive.

"We do counsel ourselves, as when Hardie, called
on the telephone by someone who was plainly a woman, said
aloud, 'Now, keep your head, Meiggs.'"

But this springs from self-love. Without self love, Hardie would not even care!
