H. P. Grice introjects into H. M. Sheffer's shoes -- but finds Huntington's shoes more comfortable!

Sheffer’s project was motivated by the purpose of using this connective to provide a more parsimonious or economical rendering of Huntington’s axiom system for standard propositional logic. In the parlance of the times, the purpose was to “reduce” the number of “primitive” connectives of standard propositional logic.
