H. P. Grice criticises S. H. Hampshire's and H. L. A. Hart's joint attempt to make 'certainty' a "necessary connexion" for the truth of the willed effect. Grice quotes from Hampshire and Hart: "For Hampshire and Hart, there is a necessary connection between certainty in the knowledge of the agent's present and future voluntary acts, and intending to do something."
