Markers as sense data -- Griceian remarks on markerese

Dale sums up Katz/Fodor, aptly:

"they never said how to determine from the markers what the actual meanings of sentences were. That is, the markers were uninterpreted."

When I read Grice, WoW:VI, I do find myself making abstract notes, using

"alpha"

and

"beta"

that Grice uses.

To say things like

"the alpha is beta"

----

Or in the language of Principia:

(x)Fx --> Gx

I tend to think that, if pressed, one can opt for a Peacockian approach to those 'markers', or unintepreted predicates.

It's the obbles in Grice's scheme being in a fid relation, and featuring this feature of fing, or that feature of fang.
