If Carnap could wax poetical with his "Syntax Structure of Language" so could Grice with "Syntax of Illusion, The", one of his publications he dubbed 'unpublicataons' _just because_. It deals with:

It seems to me the pillar box is red.
The pillar box is _black_.
The pillar box _seems_ red
The pillar box _looks_ red.
The pillar box does not seem.
The pillar box is what it seems not.
