Hypocorism is really a thing like
"Jack" as in "Jack Derrida"
but I use it more generally -- for any name -- for how do we know that Achilles, say, is not short for something (longer)?
The use of 'our' in hypocorisms is said to be vulgar:
E.g.
"Our Gracie"
to mean Gracie Stanfield, of Oldham, Lancs.
"Will you be good, our Gracie?"
Then there's the irrelevancy, otiosity and redundancy of "Hardy" as uttered by Nelson. Was there anyone else in the vicinity who would have complied?
