Conjunctionally Titled Pubs and their Invited Implicatures

Grice would frequent two pubs:

-- The Lamb and Flag

and

-- The Bird and the Baby

(the latter is slang for the real name of the pub). Both are on St. Giles'.

The idea is that

X and Y

pubs usually invite an implicature.

Suppose I name a pub

The Peter and Paul

-- the implicature being: that Westminster Cathedral (St. Peter's originally) is a better building than St. Paul's, in the City.

For _any_ "X and Y" you'll invite an implicature, you want it or not.
