Grice's Excursus

I wrote as marginalia to Chapman, p. 96 -- for she cares to discuss _in extenso_ as she should the 'excursus' that Grice dropped, cleverly, in the reprint of "Causal Theory" in WoW.

For this _excursus_, funny as it sounds, _is_ Grice.

I.e. his first published thing on things that matter!

-- the excursus is, technically, the whole Section II -- titled 'excursus' in italic in the Arist. Soc. reprint -- of "Causal Theory" and it features such four gems as

-- have you stopped beating your wife?
-- she was poor but she was honest
-- she's in the garden or in the kitchen
-- he has beautiful handwriting.

Cfr. with Grice's terse summing up in WoW, one-page thing.
